The Women of Taylor Rental of Petoskey

Rental companies are predominantly made of up men. Our store is no exception; most of our employees are male. However, the women that we have on staff are incredibly strong and intelligent people.  There is a notion in male dominated industries that women cannot possibly know as much as their male counterparts and perhaps are not taken as seriously. We, the women of Taylor Rental, do rely on our male coworkers in many situations; however they rely on us just as much.  Together, we make up a staff full of knowledge, and experiences that would not be as complete if it were only men in the industry. We all work together to make our business successful.

I, Angela, can lift and walk with an 8’ table over my head, as pictured below. Those tables weigh 80 pounds- wood table with metal legs, 30” wide and 8’ long. Can you do that? I will also look up Honda parts and start up a pressure washer for you.  Marie grew up on a farm and can throw around racks of dishes that are a good 30 pounds a piece with almost no effort. She has driven around our Bobcat Loaders and Excavators too! Becky will load and unload wood boxes full of metal pipe all day. She also is in charge of our linen and dish facility, if that sounds easy, you haven’t seen our warehouses! Diana will work with customers on setting up reservations for generators, jack hammers and sanders – all guy stuff right? Wrong. As women in the rental industry we have to be able to do every job- including the traditional female role of working with brides and choosing linen and dishes and designing fashionable events. But, we also have to work with contractors, builders, and homeowners about dump trailers, tillers, Honda parts, nailers and staplers too.

When you call our shop you can be confident in the person who answers the phone. We will direct you to the most knowledgeable person regarding your question, whether it is a male or female. When we offer to help load or unload equipment be assured we Taylor Rental women can do it!

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR RENTAL COMPANY BEFORE YOU HIRE THEM

            There are many factors to consider when you choose a rental company. Taylor Rental of Petoskey is committed to being your rental professionals in the area. Listed below are a few questions to ask before you choose your rental company. Many of these questions customers ask to companies such as: contractors, electricians, plumbers, and other companies that you hire to work for YOU.

Some of the questions may not need to be directly asked, however, each question is something to think about when comparing companies. When comparing prices, remember to compare quality and service with a smile J

1. Is the rental company licensed and insured?
2. Does the rental company employ knowledgeable staff who are certified?
3. Does the company give back to the community and are they involved in community events?
4. How many years has the company been in service?
5. How many years of experience do the employees have?
6. Will the company be able to provide excellent references?
7. How often is the rental fleet (inventory) updated?
8. What professional organizations are the company members of?

Taylor Rental’s Answers:

1. Yes! We are licensed and fully insured!
2. Yes! We employ Certified Event Rental Professionals (CERP).  And we are a Certified Honda Lawn and Garden dealer.
3. Yes! Some employees actively donate blood to the Red Cross, we have been involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters and we adopt a family during the holidays. Also, there are several events where Taylor Rental donates back to the organization after their rental with us.
4. Taylor Rental has been at its current location on East Mitchell in Petoskey since 1989, but has been in Petoskey for over 40 years! Since 1996 the same family has owned and operated the business, and will continue operating in the same family for generations to come!
5. WOW, do we have a lot of experience here at Taylor Rental! Our tent crew manager has been here for 17 years, one warehouse manager has been with us for 16 years and the other for twelve. Our tent crew leaders have been with us for 10 plus years as well as our very loyal shop guys, delivery guys and counter staff. Each year we do hire some new people; this really helps out young folks in school looking for a summer job.
6. Yes! We work with many caterers, local venues, wedding coordinators, contractors, and homeowners that are happy to share their experience.

8. Taylor Rental feels it is important to be involved in continuing education and professional organizations. We are a member of all the local Chamber of Commences, ARA (American Renal Association), The BBB, and ABC (Association of Bridal Consultants).

This blogging thing is new to us. We will try to carry on with a once a week blog to keep you informed of all the great things happening at Taylor Rental. We have so many products that we want you to know about. We are also involved with a lot of community events that we want to share. This blog will help us keep you informed of all those special activities and new products.

For example, Taylor Rental is sponsoring a lovely young lady to help raise her steer, Fletch. She is raising him as part of the 4-H program to auction him off at the Emmett County Fair this August. She will be able to use her earned money for college. What a great program!

Taylor Rental is also concerned about the environment. In December of 2011, we started working with Emmet County Recycling. We have reduced our trash drastically. We have been recycling all of our cardboard, tons of paper, plastic contains and plastic bags, along with newspapers, magazines and all our junk mail. It has made such a difference around here! All of our employees have noticed our huge dumpster not filling up on trash day due to the efforts of our recycling.
